Furkan - a volunteeer
“The weather is beautiful, the sun is shining… it’s summer!”
The words were spoken with pure enthusiasm on the sidelines of a women’s football match, during a sunny Sunday morning. They came from Furcan, a volunteer at Boldklubben Skjold who radiates kindness and smiles. “I like what I do. I’m happy. I take care of the kit, wash the uniforms, and help with whatever is needed,” he says, his eyes shining. The match has not started yet. The players are warming up, while Furcan keeps talking—but never takes his eyes off the movement around the pitch, always ready to respond to any request from the team or coaching staff.
“I’m always here. I’ve been doing this for five years, and I’m very happy.”
He pauses for a photo, gives a thumbs-up, and offers an even bigger smile. Then he adds: “Believe me, this place is special. Being a volunteer here is something really good.” He repeats the sentence twice, almost like a mantra, before smiling once more. And I think back to Furcan’s very first words that morning:
“The weather is beautiful, the sun is shining… it’s summer.” Sometimes happiness can be found in simple things: a football pitch, a sunny day, and the joy of being part of something bigger.
Thank you, Furcan.
